Has anyone tried to use the unbleached, Z-fold paper towels, instead of the typical supermarket paper towel?

I want to continue to use standard paper towels but they are so expensive. I tried buying fabric kitchen towels to cut back on using paper towels, but they seem to get germy so quick .
